At First Baptist Church of Griffin, we know that we cannot fulfill God’s calling on our own. As part of the larger Body of Christ, we are constantly looking for ways to partner with the community to make Griffin and the surrounding area a little more like the Kingdom of God. One of the partnerships that we have enjoyed over the past few years has been delivering Thanksgiving meals to those in need with our brothers and sisters at St. John Lutheran Church. We encourage you to read about the need below and volunteer to help as you are able.
In 1982, the pastor of St. John Lutheran Church approached his congregation with the idea of delivering hot Thanksgiving meals to 25 elderly residents of Spalding and Lamar Counties, folks who had no prospects of enjoying a traditional Holiday meal. The next year, area agencies provided 50 names, so volunteers from a few other churches joined the mission. Over the years, as agency referrals grew, volunteers from more churches have made monetary donations and have given their time to prepare and deliver meals. Last year, people from twelve churches and 3 schools partnered to provide 1,500 meals to residents of Pike, Lamar, and Spalding Counties. The ministry has truly become a community-wide endeavor.
Our 2019 goal is to again prepare and deliver 1,500 meals. Certainly, this is a challenging task. As we have been reminded time and time again, with God’s help, nothing is impossible so, we are turning to our friends to ask you to participate.
If you would like to make a monetary donation to help with the meal, send your check payable to St. John’s Lutheran Church to 1689 MLK Jr. Parkway, Griffin, GA 30224. Write “T-Meals” in the memo field.
