First Baptist Griffin has been a constant presence of faith and service in our community for 180 years. On August 15th, we invite you to a Homecoming service at 10:30 a.m. where we will celebrate this community of grace.

About the Service

We are pleased to host Pastor Emeritus, Bruce Morgan and Rev. Bill Hardee during our combined service at 10:30 AM in the sanctuary. Our message will be the second in our series A Community of Grace and will focus on “a grace that worships authentically.” Our focal texts will be Isaiah 1:10-20 and John 4:1-38.

Please note that we will not hold Sunday school classes and that our two services will be combined in the sanctuary for this special occasion.

Traffic, Parking, and Transportation

We anticipate a higher volume of traffic for our Homecoming service. As we will be using the Scout Lodge and lawn for our festivities, the City of Griffin has agreed to block off Poplar Street between Hill Street and 8th Street once our service begins and continuing through the end of our lunch. You are welcome to park in any of the FBC Griffin parking areas, Ace Hardware’s lot, First National Bank’s lot, or the U-Sav-It Pharmacy lot.

We will have a people mover and golf carts in service to help individuals get to the service and to dinner. Following the service, anyone who needs a lift to lunch should meet at the organ-side door in the Sanctuary.

Fellowship and Dinner

Once service is over, we will make our way to the Scout Lodge. We are especially pleased to offer a catered lunch immediately following our service. Chicken tenders, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and rolls from Tim’s Country Cooking will be on offer in the Scout Lodge. Please note that safety protocols will be in place. We ask you to use the food service gloves that will be available for food self-service in the Scout Lodge. Volunteers will be on hand if you need assistance serving your plate. We ask that parents go through the serving line on behalf of their children so that children may remain at the “Kid’s table” and we can keep our service line moving smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation.

Be sure to check in at our Welcome Table. We have a special gift for your family. You’ll also want to pick up a souvenir Homecoming fan. (What church homecoming is complete without one, right?)

We will have games on the Scout lawn following lunch. Pull up a chair and watch, or better yet—we hope you will get involved in the games yourself!

What Should I Bring?

If your last name begins with a letter between A and J, we invite you to bring a salad to share with up to 10 people. If your last name begins with a letter between K and Z, we invite you to bring a dessert to share with up to 10 people. If you are bringing a food that should be refrigerated, please keep it in a cooler until time for lunch (or deliver your cooler to the Scout Lodge before service begins). You may also drop off your cold food at the Scout Lodge on Saturday, August 14th, from 4-6pm if you prefer.

We encourage you to bring a lawn chair for lounging after lunch on the lawn.
