Even as our neighbors in North and South Carolina continue to recover from Florence, we are grieved by the images and news from the Florida panhandle and southwest Georgia. Many of the places that have offered us time to rest, play, and connect with God will never be the same. Our first response is to be in prayer for all those suffering and for those serving faithfully to meet needs and restore power and utilities.

In the book of Romans, we read, “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” While we mourn with those who have suffered over the past week, mourning is not enough. We must be willing to put hands and feet to our prayers.

First Baptist partners with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Georgia to provide disaster relief to those impacted by both Florence and Michael. If you would like to contribute to these relief efforts, you may donate through the CBF of Georgia website or by mailing a check CBF/GA, PO Box 4343, Macon, GA, 31208. Please include “Disaster Response” in the memo line.

First Baptist Griffin will also be exploring the possibility of sending a team of servants to help with cleanup and recovery efforts in the weeks and months to come. If you are interested in participating in a trip to southwest Georgia or the Florida panhandle, please contact Steven Norris.
