This past Sunday, many of you joined us in surrendering your running shoes as an act of repentance for the ways we, like Jonah, have run away from God’s call. It also became an act of obedience as we sought to clothe Jesus, who has come to us in the form of our bothers and sisters in need (see Matt. 25:31-46). Thanks to you, we were able to donate 130 pairs of shoes to our clothes closet here at First Baptist. Those shoes, a symbol of our “Yes!” to God’s call, will be a tangible symbol of the Kingdom of God in the lives of members of our community. Our prayer is that every time those shoes are worn, the scripture will be loudly proclaimed: “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news” (Isaiah 52:7). Thank you to everyone who participated.
