Here are the Latest Updates Surrounding the Covid-19 Shut Down

Closures

While some of the executive orders for the state of Georgia have created some confusion regarding the “re-opening” of businesses and the ability of church to resume in-person worship, we at First Baptist remain committed to putting the needs of our most vulnerable members at the forefront of our decision-making. As a result, we will continue our current path of on-line only services until further notice.

Our church leaders are meeting regularly to evaluate the latest information received from local and state health officials. We are weighing that information with the recommendations from local and state governments and our own commitments to be a good neighbor to the community of Griffin and Spalding County. We have also continued to participate in discussions with other faith leaders in our community and around the state. As soon as we feel confident about the safety of returning to in-person worship, we will do so in a measured and phased approach.

This phased approach will include a period of limited worship offerings, during which time we will have three morning services (8:30, 9:45, and 11:00) with limited attendance. There will be no Sunday school, Children’s Church, or nursery in those opening weeks. As we settle on a date for that reopening, we will give you a detailed description of additional procedures that we are putting in place to make our church building as safe as possible for everyone involved. For now, please know that plans are being formulated.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we seek to be a community of grace and love during these trying times.

Sunday Morning Worship

Thank you to many who joined us this past Sunday for a unique time of worship. We will continue this Sunday with leadership from our ministerial staff and some creative involvement from other members. We hope that you will join us on one of the following broadcast locations:

Facebook

In addition to the broadcast, you can access a file with a printable bulletin. We will send that out via email and provide a link on the top of our website’s homepage.

We are encouraging all of our members to take pictures of your household around the television or computer as you gather to worship. Then, upload a picture with hashtag #fbcgworships in the comment section or on social media so that we can see our scattered family worshipping together.

Sunday School

You joined us for Sunday worship this past week, but maybe you really missed out on Sunday school. This week, we are offering four different options for Sunday school members of all ages. Check it out here. We will be posting lessons as we get closer to Sunday morning from various teachers throughout our church community. More descriptions of those classes will be available as we get closer to Sunday.

Morning Prayer

Each morning, members from FBC Griffin gather together to join in prayer. We use a resource entitled, Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals. During this time of separation, Steven has been hosting these prayer times on Facebook. You can follow along even if you do not have the physical book by going to www.commonprayer.net or by downloading the app for your smart phone.

Children’s Ministry Meet-Ups

Sarah is creating some fresh and unique ways to engage with our younger members and their families during this season. For example, you could check out her new podcast “The Driving Story,” join her for some book reading, schedule a special Lunch Bunch with Sarah and participate in group check-ins via Zoom (see the Children’s Ministry online newsletter for Zoom details) with your family from home. Check out all the details here or contact Sarah Murray to learn more about these fun social distancing opportunities for you and your family.

Youth Bible Study
