Dear FBC Griffin Family,
We hope you’re staying warm and safe today. With you, we’ve been watching the developing conditions across the southern U.S. and considering the possibility of icy roads overnight. We have wrestled with how to best care for our church in the midst of very uncertain conditions.
While we deeply value being together face-to-face, we believe that the best thing for our church is to cancel our Sunday morning services for Sunday, January 25. In addition to the forecasts that all of us are watching closely, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency has issued a travel warning due to the developing winter weather, power outages, and the potential for severe thunderstorms.
We encourage you to use this time to worship together with your family. Take a few moments to read the scripture together. Maybe you already have a devotion or reading plan that you follow. If so, do that with your family. If not, I encourage you to read Philippians 4:4-9. Talk to one another or journal about how you can fix your mind on things that are “true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, or worthy of praise.” Discuss how you see God showing up in those areas of your life and what you can do to keep your mind fixed on things that honor Christ and his kingdom.
You might also take some time to pray together as a family. Pray for those who are affected by this band of storms and winter weather. Pray for those without power. Pray for those who are serving the victims — first responders, medical professionals, linemen, electrical workers, and street crews. Pray that God will keep them safe and use them to meet the needs of our neighbors. Pray for our church and church leaders, that we may be one in heart and mind.
We want to thank you for being such a faithful and generous church. Your giving makes ministry possible even on weeks like this when we can’t be in the building. You help us continue sharing the good news, meeting tangible needs of our neighbors, and serving families with the love of Christ. You can give at https://fbcgriffin.org/give or through our app.
As you worship from home, know that we are praying over you — for your protection, for God’s provision, and for this time together to bear fruit in your relationships. Most of all, we pray for God’s peace and love to be with you.
In Christ,
Steven Norris, Senior Pastor
