Before the first light of Sunday breaks through the stained glass windows of First Baptist Church, the Communion team has already gathered in the Parlor to prepare the elements for The Lord’s Supper. Their work begins days ahead of the service with a sense of solemn duty, where they carefully prepare the silver trays, each holding the bread and juice. These elements are more than just physical items—they represent the profound sacrifice of Christ, his body and blood, for our salvation. These elements bring each member of the church community together around God’s holy table. Every detail is attended to with precision and care, ensuring our worship and reflection keep us focused on Jesus.
As the congregation enters to familiar strains of worship music, they notice the Communion table set in the front of the room and set the tone with a spirit of anticipation. The silver trays, filled with sacred elements, are arranged meticulously on the Lord’s Supper table with simple elegance and utmost reverence.
When the time comes for Communion, the First Baptist Deacons assemble to distribute the bread and juice among the congregation. Quietly and carefully, they ensure that every attendee is embraced in the spirit of fellowship, serving as a reminder that Communion is not just an individual act of devotion but a communal celebration of God’s love.
After the service, the Communion team’s work is not done. They return to clear the room of emptied communion elements, clean the silver trays, and store the Communion elements. The team handles each piece with respect, and thus these beautiful tools have been able to serve our congregation for many years. This work continues even during special events like the annual Christmas Eve candlelight service, where the team’s preparation and attention to detail amplify the sacredness of the celebration.
Integral to the success of this Communion Team ministry is the support of the congregation. The monthly budget, made possible by the generous contributions of church members, is a testament to the collective commitment to nurturing and sustaining this sacred service. Through their financial support, the congregation enables the Communion team to continue their work.
In every step—from preparation and presentation to distribution and cleanup—the Communion team at First Baptist Church of Griffin serves with humility and unwavering devotion. Their work is a vibrant thread woven into the fabric of the church, and it thrives because of the community’s steadfast support. The ministry stands as a living example of how dedicated service, coupled with the generous giving of the congregation, can transform a simple act into a profound spiritual experience for all.
